What Can You Expect During RF Microneedling Appointment?

What to Expect Before and During Treatment

Numbing: To ensure your comfort, a prescription-strength topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin approximately 1 hour before the procedure. You will be asked to cleanse your skin thoroughly and distribute the cream evenly across the treatment area.
Sensation: While the procedure is minimally invasive and generally well-tolerated, you may experience a slight prickling or warm sensation as the microneedles penetrate the skin and deliver energy.

Downtime and Aftercare

Immediate Post-Treatment: Your skin will appear red and flushed, similar to a moderate sunburn, and may feel tight or sensitive to the touch. This sensitivity and redness typically diminish significantly within a few hours.
Common Reactions: Mild redness, bruising, and swelling are common and will resolve over time.
Sun Protection: Protecting your skin from the sun is critical. Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and artificial tanning. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or greater) once your skin has fully healed, which usually occurs by day 5.
Skin Care: Avoid skin irritants—such as retinoids, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, and exfoliants—for 7 days post-treatment. Do not use a razor in the treatment area for 5 days.
Maintenance: To promote healing, you may be directed to use a vinegar soak (1 teaspoon of plain white vinegar to 2 cups of cool water) 3–4 times daily, starting on the day of your treatment. Mineral makeup may generally be applied after 48 hours, provided the skin is not broken.
